Well, this one will be quick as I fly out shortly.
From the tech perspective, I've got a new camera phone with GPS so I plan on trying to nerdify my journal:
1) Nokia's Sports Tracker (build Google Earth KML of your routes)
2) Nokia's GeoTag (writes GPS coordinates on the pics you take)
3) DEdit (text editor for offline blogging, paired with iGo wireless bluetooth keyboard)
4) New Picasa and Blogger accounts setup for this
5) Downloaded "On Food and Cooking" e-book (my current reading) using mobipocket
6) Ripped 2 discs of season 2 of the Simpsons using HandBrake and downloaded to my phone (movies are nice on planes)
7) Downloaded Rick Steve's Paris walking tours to the phone
8) Y-jack headphone splitter so Jon and I can both listen in
9) Downloaded Rick Steve's maps that go with the walking tour
10) Vonage softphone setup so if I can find wifi, I can call back to the U.S. cheaply
11) T-mobile service with international roaming add-on (for cheap roaming)
Our first itinerary (already out of date):
Getting blogger and picasa to work together is a bit tricky for me at the moment. We'll see how it plays out ... off to the airport.

Travel safely! Don't forget to update for us poor working folk! You probably wont be doing something like this again for a long while so just keep going and do it justice :).
I only have one word of advice for your travels and that is to relax, open up and meet people (foreign and domestic). Be comfortable not knowing whats up and don't be above saying hello, asking questions, etc. Finding a couple new folks to share the adventure and a drink with with makes it a hell of a lot more memorable. The places were cool but it is the people I remember most.
Favorite places in order: Paris, Munich, Amsterdam, Budapest, Barcelona
Oh and the most confusing part of paris is getting downtown from the CDG airport. Take the RER B train to chatlet-les halles.
You are probably best off getting a "carte orange" (pronounced: cart o-ronge) or "paris visite" card for the days you are there if your going to be hopping on and off the metro a lot. You dont need to ever go outside of zone 1 unless you goto versailles and you should just buy the adjunct fare for that part imo.
Glad you started a blog for this! Can't wait to hear your stories along the way. Michael has all the right advice for you! I just have one advice, change your profile pic, it doesn't portray the sweet, nice, laid-back and handsome Freddy!
